Some Great Things: January 2019 Edition

The first great thing I’d like to share with you in this post is the website/blog/project (warning only in Dutch) where Bente Van De Douw aims to be honest and open on the internet and on social media and discusses things such as the usage of filters on Instagram that make people appear perfect.

In this Hacker News question asking for the best comments on the site I found this blogpost with some great advice

If you need another nudge towards eating healthier than watch How not to Die on YouTube or Forks over Knives on Netflix.

Susan Boyle’s audition for Britain’s Got Talent and Champions Got Talent are a great reminder not to judge a book by its cover.

Some songs I’ve been listening to a lot this month:

  • Billie Elish - When the party’s over
  • Sol Seppy - Enter one (also check out Múm if you liked this one)
  • Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory (Full Album)

And if I need a beat to get some work done I’ll listen to the never disappointing DJ Hardwell, especially his 2013 set at Electric Zoo (New York).

I use the NewPipe app which is not in the Google Play Store but can be found in the F-Droid app store. Ad free, background playing and download functionality for YouTube and Soundcloud. Sadly enough they are currently experiencing some issues with YouTube, hopefully they are to fix it soon.

Great post on goal setting by Dan Steer. I once followed a 3-day Leadership Foundation course with him and it was a valuable experience.

I also (again) enjoyed one of the classic posts by Paul Graham on why smart people have bad (business) ideas.

There are plenty of great posts from Tim Urban on his site Wait but Why but here I’d like to share his post 100 Blocks a Day, emphasizing that time is valuable and that it should be spend wisely.
